Junior Research & Development (R&D) Analyst

We’re looking for a curious, analytical, and hands-on Research & Development (R&D) Analyst to join our team in Montreal, Quebec. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or an early-career scientist who enjoys solving technical challenges, working in a laboratory environment, and collaborating with manufacturing to bring innovative products to life.

What You’ll Do

  • Support product development from concept through production.
  • Develop, test, and validate new product formulations.
  • Improve existing formulations and manufacturing processes to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Evaluate and qualify new raw materials for production.
  • Perform quality control testing on incoming raw materials and finished products.
  • Investigate product performance issues and assist with troubleshooting manufacturing challenges.
  • Conduct competitor product evaluations and prepare comparative reports.
  • Prepare laboratory materials, equipment, and documentation for production trials.
  • Prepare customer and sales samples.
  • Maintain formulation records, product specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Assist with wastewater sampling, testing, and environmental compliance.
  • Support product costing and Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) documentation.
  • Promote a safe, organized, and compliant laboratory and manufacturing environment.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies, materials, and industry trends.

What You’ll Bring

Education

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or a related scientific discipline: Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Food Science

Experience

  • 0–3 years of experience in laboratory, quality, formulation, manufacturing, or product development. Internship or co-op experience is considered relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Comfortable working in both laboratory and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
  • Bilingual in French & English (English required to communicate with Vendors outside Quebec).

Preferred Technical Skills

Experience with or knowledge of:

  • HPLC operation and analytical testing
  • Laboratory testing methods
  • Color matching techniques
  • Experimental design and statistical data analysis
  • Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Scientific literature and patent review
  • Chemical nomenclature and engineering units of measure

Working Environment

This position combines laboratory, office, and manufacturing floor responsibilities. You’ll regularly work with laboratory equipment, chemicals, and manufacturing processes while following established safety procedures and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
